Lake Tahoe Ski Lift Turned Down

5-4-07 www.keeptahoeblue.org

Dear League members and friends,

Last week, the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency did the right thing and turned down the Vail Corporation's "North Bowl Express" proposal to put a new chairlift through a rare stand of old growth trees at Heavenly Mountain Resort. Vail has graciously accepted the TRPA's decision, and announced that it will pursue an alternative upgrade to its North Bowl lift facilities - one that spares the old growth trees.

With this outcome added to the enhanced water quality protections that were incorporated into the plan through a collaborative effort between the League and Vail, the League is confident that the amended Heavenly Master Plan that emerged from last week's proceedings will provide a better environmental outcome, as well as a better skiing experience, than its predecessor plan.

Here is a link to an article with additional details about the TRPA hearing: http://www.tahoedailytribune.com/article/20070426/NEWS/104260073.

Thank you to each of you who sent letters, attended meetings, and spoke out in support of the North Bowl trees and enhanced water quality! This campaign was a huge effort involving many groups and hundreds of volunteer activists. Thank you for all your efforts to Keep Tahoe Blue!
