By an act of Congress, John Muir Land Trust is donating the 44-acre West Hills Farm property to the John Muir National Historic Site to help preserve trails and lands surrounding the longtime home of the man known as the Father of Our National Parks.
In 2019 JMLT purchased Almond Ranch, a 281-acre property connecting the John Muir National Historic Site to an expansive trail system and 18,000 acres of permanently protected open space.

Spring 2022 Coastal Land Deals

One Of Two Last Large Privately Owned Properties In Orange County to be Saved



ORANGE COUNTY: disburse up to $6,000,000 to the Trust for Public Land to acquire 384 acres of the Banning Ranch property in Newport Beach and unincorporated Orange County. SCC 5/4/2022

DETAILS: the State will buy 384 acres out of the 401 acre site. 17 acres will be turned over to the oil company which owns the oil rights and which will continue to operate oil wells from there. Sale price of the 384 acres is a total of $97 million: $37 million from the State of CA, $12 million from the USA, and $47 million from the Randall family.

NOTE: the other large private parcel is Chevron's West Coyote Hills in Fullerton, some of which is being saved. More....?

(total price $76M, $25M from WCB, $25M from Anennberg Foundation, Boeing $1M, Caltrans, the National Park Service, the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy/Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority, Resource Conservation District of the Santa Monica Mountains, and the National Wildlife Federation ) grant to the National Wildlife Federation to construct a wildlife crossing over U.S. Highway 101 to facilitate wildlife migration near Agoura Hills in Los Angeles County. The $1.4 million gift came from an anonymous donor from La Cañada Flintridge, who has given $2 million to the project to date. Another long-time supporter, Carolyn Davis, contributed $500,000 to the effort in December.

Other recent donors to the project include a couple from Kansas who have contributed $675,000 after reading about the plight of the Los Angeles area cougars in National Wildlife magazine, along with a resident of the community where the crossing will be located who contributed $250,000 on behalf of the M. Piuze Foundation in memory of its founder.

TRINITY-MENDOCINO- $2,000,000 to The Wildlands Conservancy to acquire approximately 7,480 acres of the Lone Pine Ranch property at the confluence of the Eel River mainstem and North Fork Eel River in Trinity and Mendocino Counties for the purposes of preserving and restoring fish and wildlife habitat, public access and recreation, open space, and natural resource protection. Total price is $6.9 million, with $4.9 million from the WCB. SCC 5/27/2021
