Spring 2022 Coastal Land Deals

One Of Two Last Large Privately Owned Properties In Orange County to be Saved



ORANGE COUNTY: disburse up to $6,000,000 to the Trust for Public Land to acquire 384 acres of the Banning Ranch property in Newport Beach and unincorporated Orange County. SCC 5/4/2022

DETAILS: the State will buy 384 acres out of the 401 acre site. 17 acres will be turned over to the oil company which owns the oil rights and which will continue to operate oil wells from there. Sale price of the 384 acres is a total of $97 million: $37 million from the State of CA, $12 million from the USA, and $47 million from the Randall family.

NOTE: the other large private parcel is Chevron's West Coyote Hills in Fullerton, some of which is being saved. More....?

NORTH COAST:

MENDOCINO: disburse up to $3,420,000 to Save the Redwoods League to acquire conservation easements on 3,862-acres of the Weger Ranch property within the Big River watershed.

REDWOODS: enter into a Joint Powers Agreement (JPA) with the Great Redwood Trail Authority (GRTA) for the purposes of developing the Great Redwood Trail Master Plan and community engagement process and providing interim staffing and technical support to the GRTA; and 2) spend up to $2,500,000 of funds appropriated to the Conservancy specifically for the Great Redwood Trail to support the purposes of the JPA for the advancement of the trail in Mendocino, Trinity, and Humboldt Counties. SAN MATEO: disburse up to $500,000 to Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District to acquire 644-acres of the Johnston Ranch property for natural resource protection and restoration, open space, compatible agricultural preservation, and public access, located adjacent to the City of Half Moon Bay. SAN MATEO: disburse up to $950,000 to Sempervirens Fund to acquire a conservation easement on the approximately 915-acre YMCA Camp Jones Gulch property in the Santa Cruz Mountains in unincorporated San Mateo County SCC 5/4/2022

SANTA BARBARA: disburse up to $2,300,000 to contract for services to prepare environmental review documents, a cultural and tribal resource survey, and a property appraisal for the Hollister Ranch Coastal Access Program. SCC 5/4/2022

SO. CAL.:

LA: disburse up to $500,000 to hire contractors to develop and implement participation from tribal communities, community groups, and residents of the greater Los Angeles region to assist in planning the Ballona Wetlands Restoration project; and (2) disburse up to $53,000 to the Friends of Ballona Wetlands to restore disturbed riparian habitat at the Ballona Wetlands Ecological Reserve.
