On August 20, 2008, the Santa Barbara County Planning Commission brought sprawling residential development at Naples closer to reality. In October, the Board of Supervisors will consider two recommendations from the Planning Commission: (1) to certify the project's Environmental Impact Report (EIR); and (2) to approve the development of 71 large homes on what is now farm land and open space. EDC and Surfrider hope that the Board will not follow all of the Planning Commission's recommendations - several state agencies and a number of experts still have significant concerns about the project's impacts on productive agriculture, sensitive species habitat and areas of great cultural importance.
However, the Board needs to hear from you. The Board needs to hear that our community supports preservation on the Gaviota Coast and the implementation of creative programs like the Transfer of Development Rights from Naples into appropriate urban areas. Please join us on September 16 to discuss TDR with the Board, and then again later in October when the Board contemplates the project at Santa Barbara Ranch.
We can make a difference, but we need your help.
WHEN: September 16, 2008
