State and Local Group May Expand Tuolumne River Park near Modesto

12/5/2008, from the Tuolumne River Trust:

The Dos Rios Ranch acquisition and restoration project in Modesto includes over 1,600 acres of strategically located land where the Tuolumne and San Joaquin Rivers meet. Tuolumne River Trust is working to aquire this gem of a plot of land which, when the project is complete, will link the San Joaquin River National Wildlife Refuge to the Lower Tuolumne River Parkway parks.

A big thanks goes out to our supporters who answered our Action Alert and attended the California State Parks public meeting on November 12th in Modesto! Because of the considerable number of attendees, the Modesto meeting was by far the largest of all the Central Valley Vision meetings. As a reminder, this was one of several opportunities for the public to comment on State Parks’ Plan for creating and improving parks in the Central Valley. On the list of proposed new parks is a project we have been working on for several years, acquiring and restoring the Dos Rios Ranch, a 1,600 acre property with six miles of river frontage at the confluence of the Tuolumne and San Joaquin Rivers. Having so many people show up was a strong signal of support, and we look forward to continuing to cooperate with State Parks and our other funding partners to make further progress. You can still email your supportive comments to centralvalleyvision@parks.ca.gov, until December 15.
