Gaviota Coast News: Board of Supervisors Votes 4-0 to Initiate a TDR Program for Santa Barbara County

from the Environmental Defense Center

On February 5, 2008, the Board of Supervisors voted 4-0 to initiate a Transfer of Development Rights (TDR) ordinance for Santa Barbara County. Supervisors Wolf and Carbajal set the wheels in motion, while Supervisor Gray abstained. Initiation of a TDR ordinance is a first step towards fulfilling a 25-year-old County policy, which calls for limiting residential development on the Gaviota Coast. TDR will be an important component of EDC and the Surfrider Foundation’s campaign to protect Gaviota’s Naples townsite. Join us in congratulating the Board on this historic achievement, and in urging the Board to craft the most effective and efficient possible TDR program.
